FREE POSTCARD GIVE AWAY

September will bring about the one year anniversary of this blog. I am doing a postcard give away to celebrate! That is of course if there is any interest. I am fairly certain that the postcard will be one of the butterfly ones. If there is a lot of interest I will put your names in a hat and pick one at random . Leave me a comment on this post and I will put your name in the running. Click here to see the postcard that will most likely be sent, or one very like it, as I am not sure which ones I still have.

just thinking out loud

I have been seeing a lot of posts about influences and inspirations lately. Where one finds it and how one uses it within their own artwork. I know that I am influenced by artists that I admire, I see the touches of color, texture etc in my own work that draws on that influence. Does this infringe on the copy right of the artist? I don't think it would unless it is a copy of an original work or style to an imitative degree. Am I wrong on this point? Here is a block from some years ago that draws heavily from Native American art. I drew the design but do acknowledge the influence. Petroglyphs and ancient cave paintings often inspire me. And of course you can see Alphonse Mucha influences in my work. And I know that Botticelli is certainly an influence. While I especially love the impressionists work with color and light I cant say that I have captured much of that in my own work, though it does inspire me greatly. There is always the possibility of ones work being copied without permission. Especially with posting on the web. Am I concerned? Sure. I don't want the work I do attributed to someone else. I do hope that someday, somehow, someone will want to buy one of MY artquilts...
