Every now and then I will post pictures of Artists I admire. I am usually drawn to the impressionists though I find many styles of art to my liking.
This painting is done by Eva Gonzales (1849-1883 ) I love her use of subtle colors and emotions. She was the only student of Edourad Manet and died in childbirth just 6 days after his death.
I am finding more and more woman artists that were largely ignored by history even though they exhibited alongside their male contemporaries. I suppose that in some way I am especially interested in woman artists because needle arts are usually associated with women. Though there are certainly many men who work in fiber!

Stage 2. Or is it 3?

the drawing is transferred to fabric. The fabric is a pale lilac kona cotton. The floss is a wonderful assortment of variegated that will also be intermixed with solids in a wide variety of solid colors yet to be determined. I pick and choose from my rather large stash as I go. The drawing is a basic guide and who knows just where and how it will change as it progresses. I know the basic elements that are there will stay there. What I dont know is just how much more will be added into the design. My quilt ' I Dreamed I Lived On A Sea Turtles Back' started out very much like this and the turtles shell became much more involved. On the other hand the 'Red Raven' stayed fairly true to my original drawing. Next comes the big hoop and stitching. Lots of stitching. Lots.
Christmas
This is my favorite time of year. Once you get past the rush and hubbub of all the pre holiday doings and things settle down into just enjoying one anothers company . Not to mention all the goodies!

Now I finally have some time to post. Here are a few pictures of the decorations and tree. Isn't that cat ornament fabulous! The crochet snowflake is one of several I made some years ago. I wanted to make a few more this Christmas but I ran out of time ( and of course it had nothing to do with deciding I would do that a week before ..) and I couldn't find the original instructions. Next year I am doing everything early. Like, say, June!

Too busy for quilting!

It has been a busy busy month here! No quilt content going on, just work and more work. I love the holidays even though I find very little time for doing much art. So rather then bore you all with pictures of how swamped we are at the Postal Service I will show you a page from my sketch book and some earlier painted fabric. The above fabric is painted with setacolor paints. It is about a yard long. This beautiful bright fabric was painted by my grandson age nine. I think that I will end up just quilting it whole as is. It seems to be such a happy work! Now back to work for me..at least for the next week or so then a much needed vacation!

SNOW

Well it had to happen. Winter. Cold. Wet heavy snow. Although it looks so beautiful falling quietly in the early light and covers the grey city streets with a wondrously sparkling blanket of white so bright it looks blue, I could easily do without it on a day when I have to drive to work. Add to that the fact that I work out of doors and well... Need I say more!?
